Lesson 1
The Basics :-
•Defragment your drive to make it faster.
•Use ScanDisk to check for errors.
•Use Disk Cleanup to get rid of unneeded files.
Defragmenting :-
.Defragmenting rearranges files so they load faster.
•It’s like reorganizing your office.
•If a file that you need is on the other side of the office it takes you a long time to get your work done.
•If files on the computer are closer together, it takes less time to load them.
How to Defragment ?
1.Hit Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >>
Disk Defragmenter
2. Select your hard drive and press OK or Defragment
3. Wait for it to finish!
ScanDisk:-
•ScanDisk scans your drive for errors and fixes them.
•ScanDisk will NOT fix…
•Bad programming.
–If the programmer messed something up, there’s nothing you can do to fix it.
•Hard drive failure.
–If your hard drive fails, then you can’t access the program anyway!
How to Use Scandisk ?
1. Open My Computer, right-click your hard drive, and hit Properties.
2. Go to the Tools tab and hit the Check Now… button for error-checking.
How to Use Scandisk :-
Hit Standard. If you have serious errors, use Thorough. Press Start and wait for it to finish.
(XP). Check both boxes and answer “Yes” when it asks you to scan at restart. Restart your computer.
Disk Cleanup :-
•Disk Cleanup automatically searches for unnecessary files and eliminates them from your computer.
•If you’re running out of space, this is the place to go.
how to use Disk Cleanup :-
1. Hit Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Disk Cleanup.
2. After it finishes scanning for files, it will give you a list of what you can eliminate. I recommend you check everything except “Compress Old Files”

•Do these things once a month to keep your computer fast and healthy.
